Abstract
Skin inflammation may be the manifestationof an underlying physiological condition, result fromexposure to environmental triggers or, as is often thecase, be due to a combination of both endogenous andexogenous factors. Numerous pharmacological agentslisted in the OTC Monograph for skin protectant drugproducts for human use help to manage inflammatoryskin conditions by bulking the stratum corneum forenhanced barrier competency, thus helping to modulateskin’s inflammatory processes. Here we propose that, byadding a combination of bioactive peptides and otheractive cosmetics to an OTC skincare formulation, themicro-environment of skin’s surface may be furthermodulated to support the benefits derived fromtraditional skin protectant agents.
