How to achieve product sustainability without compromising performance

Abstract

To limit global warming and improve sustainability, changes must be made throughout all of society. In the cleaning industry, this is manifested as a driver towards greener formulation, lower washing temperatures and shorter cleaning cycles. The question is, however, if such changes will not compromise the product performance. With a methodical approach, this does not have to be the case. Identifying the formulation adjustments needed and using a scientific method to evaluate the cleaning efficiency, the product performance can be maintained. As an example of this approach, we show how a real-time technology and cleaning profile evaluation can be used to rapidly assess whether it is possible to replace one of the surfactants in a formulation without compromising the performance.
