Informex 2016

InformEx 2016 brought together buyers and suppliers from the world’s most rapidly growing fine and specialty chemical markets. The 32nd edition of the innovation-focused show featured nearly 300 exhibitors and had just under 2,000 attendees as well as newly enhanced on-site programming.
The educational line-up fostered dialogue on innovation and commercialization trends, regulatory challenges, market dynamics and opportunities for growth within today’s rapidly growing chemical markets. Top sessions included an agrochemical panel featuring DuPont, Dow Agrosciences and Syngenta; a pharmaceutical regulations panel featuring Johnson & Johnson, Novartis, Rx-360, and The British Standards Institute; and a case study on collaboration and innovation presented by Dr. Chandra Ramanathan Senior Director, Innovation Strategy & Global Lead, External Innovation, Bayer.
The opening keynote, new to the educational programming this year, was kicked off by Lawrence Sloan, President & CEO of SOCMA as he discussed the latest trends in custom contract manufacturing. The President of the Cuban Chemical Society, Luis Alberto Montero-Cabrera, then discussed opportunities on the horizon following the improved relationship between Cuban and the United States. The closing keynote was delivered by John Warner, President and Chief Technology Officer of the Warner Babcock Institute, LLC. Warner shared how businesses can begin to incorporate green chemistry to improve the composition and profitability of their products and production processes. Both speakers were very well received by the InformEx community.
Additional unique programming included the Professional Women in Chemistry Breakfast and the Young Innovators Program. The 2nd Annual Professional Women in Chemistry Breakfast, united female executives from the industry to celebrate and empower women within the industry. Participation in the program was overwhelming and established a great foundation for the program to continue to grow. The Young Innovators Program was a joint effort with the National Science Foundation’s Innovation Corps Sites Chemicals and Materials Customer Discovery Program. The program connected the up-and-coming chemical professionals with industry leaders at the event by having teams of budding entrepreneurs from universities across the country present their innovative product or service to influencers in the industry.
