After more than 33 years in the industry in large (Pharmacia; BMS, Fresenius Kabi), medium size (Sigma-tau & Antibioticos) and small (Dipharma) companies Walter joined, as Full Professor of Organic Chemistry, the Alma Mater Studiorum-University of Bologna. In Fresenius Kabi as SVP API I&D he is still scientifically support Chemical/Analytical Development and Regulatory Affairs. Awards: Federchimica Prize (1993 Anthracyclines chemistry); Ciamician Medal (1995 SCI for the work in organometallic catalysis); Bristol-Myers Squibb President Award (1996); Prize for the Industrial Application of Organic Chemistry (2013 SCI/Organic Chemistry Division). He was CMC leader for the registration in 2011 of Eurartesim an Artemisinin Combined Therapy against Malaria. The main areas of interest are in the fields of drug discovery (oncology, CNS, antibacterial agents, Malaria), protein-protein interactions, pharmaceutical green chemistry, peptides and complex drugs. Co-author of 113 papers; 100 patents; one Book “From Bench to Market” Oxford University Press 2000.
