Cefic is proud to announce this year’s European Responsible Care Award winners. The awards recognising the top achievers in the EU chemical industry towards excellence in health, safety and environmental standards.
2017 recipients are:
· AkzoNobel (NL) received the Environment Responsibility Award for building innovative consortia to develop new value chains that enable substantial carbon footprint reductions, while delivering value and reducing risk.
· Solvay SA (BE) received the Special Award for its outstanding environmental management system the Solvay Care Management System (SCMS) covering seven areas of risk: occupational safety, process safety, the environment, industrial hygiene, occupational health, product stewardship, and transport.
· Total Refining & Chemicals (FR) received the Occupational Health & Process Safety Award for their efforts to improve employee safety performance. A team of HSE Operational Safety coordinators developed the NOP bracket, a device that attaches directly onto a vertical lateral manhole in order to pull someone quickly out of a confined space in the event of an accident.
Speaking at the Cefic General Assembly in Vienna, Marco Mensink, Cefic Director General said: “Continuously striving for the highest standards in safety, health and environment is a priority for our industry. We commend this year’s winners for their efforts and innovative approaches to challenging best practices and finding ways for our industry to keep raising the bar.”
Responsible Care is the global chemical industry’s unique initiative to improve health, environmental performance, enhance security, and to communicate with stakeholders about products and processes. The awards were launched by Cefic in 2004 to identify excellence across the industry and further boost best practices.
