Micro- and Milli-reaction technology

Chimica Oggi-Chemistry Today

Multi-ton millireactor in operation

The paradigm shift batch to continuous flow process based on micro- and millireactors shows noticeable success on industrial scale. In 2016, the commissioning of a Miprowa production reactor by the Chinese company Shaoxing Eastlake High-Tech Co., Ltd. was a major step towards establishing the technology platform as process technology. This success was further consolidated by the company’s consistently positive production experience. Two more reactors were ordered from Ehrfeld as a result of this success story. They will be put into operation in 2018 and will allow a production capacity of several ten thousand tons per year. Even in Europe and especially in Germany, this powerful production technology is increasingly coming into the focus of producers:

Clariant AG currently is in the phase of establishing the new technology platform micro- and millireactors. In the first quarter of 2018, the company acquired and commissioned from Ehrfeld Mikrotechnik a modular microreaction system, which includes the highly scalable Miprowa® technology. At present, this R & D platform is used to evaluate processes of Clariant AG with high potential and advantages for changeover. Attractive processes resulting from the evaluation will be assessed by an economic analysis as decision basis for a transfer to production.
