Denmark’s Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries has set out to work with Spain and other EU countries in an aim to change EU regulation to allow use of the word “probiotic” on labels.
In April 2020 Spain went against the Health and Nutrition Claims Regulations EU 1924/2006 and authorised the use of the word ‘Probiotics’on Food Labels. The Danish Ministry has now announced that it will contact other EU ministries to try to get the clause in the Health and Nutrition Claims Regulations amended. Countries that are in support include Spain, Italy, Greece, Bulgaria, Poland, the Czech Republic and Malta.
