Chemtrix B.V and DSM Chemical Technology R&D B.V., the chemical route scouting unit of Royal DSM (NYSE, Euronext: DSM KON), jointly announced that the companies have signed an exclusive distributorship agreement in the field of 3D printed metal continuous flow reactors to provide sustainable equipment and scale-up support to the chemical industry.
The agreement brings together the expertise of both parties in the field of continuous flow chemistry to serve the chemical industry with this new type of flow reactors to facilitate fast process development, piloting and full scale production. Selective laser melting (or 3D printing of metal) delivers full freedom of geometrical design which allows the design and manufacture of customized 3D printed reactors in high efficiency. Chemtrix specializes in continuous flow reactors ranging from lab up to tonne-scale chemical production and also offers flow chemistry services. DSM, by its Innosyn® Route Scouting Service unit, offers scalable process developments to a wide range of customers.
André de Vries, business manager Innosyn® Route Scouting Services, stated “thanks to the enabling technology of 3D printing of metal, the flexibility and cost level of industrial flow reactors are drastically improved, opening up a wide range of opportunities for the chemical industry. In principal one can now create the ideal asset for a specific type of demanding chemistry.”
“We are looking forward to disseminate these reactors to third parties with the help of Chemtrix’ network and expertise, since this will give us insights into new innovations” added Daniel Mink, Corporate Scientist Chemistry at DSM. “
Charlotte Wiles, CEO of Chemtrix BV stated, “This new type of flow reactors complements our current portfolio of flow reactors, now having 3 different materials (glass, ceramic (SiC) and metal) available to suit the customer’s chemistry requirements over a wide range of operating conditions”. “With our existing network in the chemical industry and our global network of agents, service support and laboratories we are equipped to distribute flow reactors globally”, added Stan Hoeijmakers, Marketing Manager of Chemtrix.
