Emerald will present solutions to “shift formulations in your favor” at In-Cosmetics global. Paul Wanrooij, Emerald business development director, will provide formulators with guidance on how to work within a shrinking preservatives palette, including methods to enhance preservation efficacy.
By adjusting certain aspects of the formulation, it is possible to achieve safe, efficacious preservation in challenging personal care applications. The methodologies discussed will include groundbreaking new research showing the impact of surfactants on preservation.
In addition, Emerald conducted efficacy testing using several model formulations: a naturals-based, gentle shampoo formulation at pH 6.5 and skin lotions at pH levels 5.5 – 6.5. By leveraging preservative synergies with benzoates and phenoxyethanol, as well as using boosters, microbial growth could be effectively controlled within the formulations.
Formulating with a Shrinking Preservatives Palette: Alternatives, Boosters, and Multifunctionals will be presented on 2 April at 4:30pm, In-Cosmetics theatre 3.
