WHO/WHAT DRIVES INNOVATION IN LIPSTICKS?

Joyce Wada: The demand for new technologies and true innovation is constantly increasing due to our highly demanding consumers, always aiming for newness. Compared with other products, lip products are the easiest to apply, requiring the fewest make-up techniques, yet are able to achieve an immediate effect in boosting facial complexion. More importantly, consumers tend to purchase new lip products even when they have not yet finished using their existing ones, due to the need for various colours to mix and match and different textures. Also, in general, as lipsticks are affordable products in comparison to other cosmetics, innovation and newness need to be developed for consumers having this in mind.
