Bakuchiol, extracted from Psoralea Corylifolia (also known as Babchi, an ancient medicinal plant originating from India and China) has been known for some 10 years in the Cosmetic Industry as an effective botanical-derived substance with Retinol-like activity.
Though Bakuchiol and Retinol do not show close structural similarities, they do exhibit a remarkably similar pattern of activity on certain genes and proteins of cosmetic interest (e.g. anti-ageing, anti-acne, etc.), as proven through gene expression profiling, amongst other techniques (1, 2).
Dr. Craft, however, claim to have developed a clean extraction process that has enabled them to produce the “World’s first organic Bakuchiol skincare product”.
Bio-Bakuchiol Face Cream is an O/W-based system that makes extensive use of natural ingredients.
The oil phase is largely based on vegetable oils, waxes and butters.
