It is well known that, when applied to the skin in large areas of the body for prolonged periods, sunscreens are absorbed and may cause adverse effects. I.R.A. - Istituto Ricerche Applicate s.r.l has developed Dermahyal^® Sun, a new photo-stabilising and photoprotective system with crosslinked hyaluronic acid and various UV filters that help reduce contact with the skin and absorption. In vitro and in vivo studies have shown substances such as benzophenone-3, 3-benzylidene camphor, 4-methilybenzylidene camphor and octyl-methoxycinnamate, after skin absorption, affect hormone levels, have estrogenic activity and increased the possibility of cancers.
