Probiotics and Botanical extracts: Indena’s help to Gastrointestinal health
The definition of probiotics (the Latin word “pro,” means “for” and the Greek word βιωτικός (biōtikos) means “bios” or “life”) states that “probiotics are live microorganisms that confer a health benefit on the host when administered in adequate amounts. The majority of clinical applications of commercially available probiotic strains are indicated for digestive system diseases. Can you comment these literature results and give us some examples?

At present the strongest evidence supporting the use of probiotics for digestive system diseases is related to the treatment of acute diarrhea (infectious, antibiotic-associated, Clostridium difficile) and pouchitis.
Probiotics treatment represents in general a good approach to re-equilibrate intestinal microflora, to restore a good gut-health in case of simple digestive disorders (dyspepsia) or more serious conditions like IBS (Inflammatory Bowel Syndrome) and IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease).
