6^th International Conference on Biocatalysis in Non-Conventional Media

On May 6-8^th 2021 the 6^th International Conference on Biocatalysis in Non-Conventional Media (BNCM 2021), which was initially planned to be held in Milan one year ago, took place on a virtual platform.

Following the last edition of BNCM in 2017 (Rostock, Germany), BNCM2021 aimed at carrying on an almost 35-year tradition of excellent science, initiated in 1986 by the European Society of Applied Biocatalysis (ESAB) in Wageningen (The Netherlands).

“Non-conventional media” or, to a larger extent, “non-conventional environments” are often required by enzymes in industrial applications, thus cutting across many market sectors (agro-food, pharma, textile, detergency, biosensors, biofuels). Biotransformations in organic solvents, ionic liquids, gaseous media, but also in water- and solvent-free systems, or the need for enzyme compartmentalization as in multi-phase systems and flow-based bioprocesses are just some examples.
