Abstract
Since the first paper reported by Friedel and Crafts, theacylation reaction quickly became a fundamental pillarof synthetic organic chemistry at both the academic andindustrial levels. In particular, maximum effort has beendirected toward the use of solid acid catalysts. Recentlythe acylation of anisole with acetic anhydride has beencarried out with good yield and excellent selectivityby using sulfonic acids tethered onto silica as catalysts. In this work we show the study dealing with the role ofdifferent silica supported sulfonic acids in the acylation ofaromatics with acetic anhydride, in order to evaluate theeffect of the textural properties of the catalysts.
