Abstract
Skin health is influenced by many intrinsic and extrinsic factors which should be considered during genetic analysis for personalized skincare in order to obtain tailor made treatments. This approach is useful to prevent skin aging by identifying the specific skin genetic characteristic. Thanks to its multiple applications, genetic analysis applied on precision skincare can draw particular interest in a new generation of skin products.
In this review we aim to provide a broad overview of the main personalization treatments, the different studies that investigate the relation between genetic profiles with the efficacy of cosmetic active ingredients, the main genetic skin health and skin aging factors between ethnic groups. In addition, the main genetic markers playing a role in skin aging have been described along with clinically proving the link between genetic profiles with personalized skin care products.
INTRODUCTION
Many factors contribute to the health of the skin and they can vary based on populations, geographical zones and habits. It is possible to study the main factors that affect the actual conditions of the skin and its aging, such as genetics, diet, hormones levels, UV exposure, etc. Due to a large number of elements and their different nature, it can be difficult to determine the causes. Being able to identify specific skin characteristics of each individual and to give individual advice appropriate to his or her own circumstances is the concept of personalized skin care. Analyzing the genetic background of an individual can help in understanding the true skin type and risks for developing certain skin concerns. It will also give directions as to what precision skin treatment or precision skin care regime might be suitable for one’s skin type.
PERSONALIZATION TREATMENTS
Personalized medicine
The study of genetic profiles in order to focalize research on specific targets is being applied in medical practices.
