Medicinal plants have been essential resources for human health, from ancient times right up to the present day. According to the World Health Organization, the majority of the world’s population depend on traditional medicine for their primary health care needs.
Serbia has significant quantities of medicinal plant resources, and it has a long tradition in their use. During the last decade, Serbia’s share in EU imports has increased from 0,43 to 2 percent, indicating substantial expansion prospects for the industry. Production of teas and other herbal products have also been increasing at a rate of 10 percent annually. Serbia's most significant partners in the herb trade are the EU (62%) and Balkan Countries (35%).
