SKIN MICROBIOME
Skin is the outer most cover of the body which is in direct contact with the external environment. “Biome” the Greek word derived from bios, means “life”.
The microbiome of our skin is the living natural flora of microorganisms that protect the surface of the skin (1, 2) (Figure 1).
COMPLEXITY OF SKIN MICROBIOMES
Skin microbiome shows the greatest diversity and variability over time. Colonization of the skin by microbes is driven by the ecology of the skin surface, which depends on the topographical location, host factors as well as the environmental factors.
