NYSCC Event: Sunscreen Innovations and History/Formulation of Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) for Sunless Tanning
INTRODUCTION
On March 23, 2023, the New York chapter of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists (NYSCC) held an event on the theme “Sunscreen Innovations and History/Formulation of Dihydroxyacetone for Sunless Tanning.” Speakers addressed current challenges and potential solutions for sun care product development. The seminar explored three challenging aspects associated with sunscreen formulation and testing. Topics included a presentation on the Future of SPF and UVA-PF testing using the Hybrid Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy, Fused-Ring Cyanoacrylate Chemistry to stabilize sunscreen instability and promote broad spectrum protection, formulating zinc-based sunscreens that can be applied to all skin types with minimal whitening on skin, and self-tanning formulation considerations working with dihydroxyacetone.
