Welcome to the first edition of Surfactants Insights. In each edition of HPC Today, I will publish my thoughts and opinions on the business of surfactants. While this column’s arrival coincides with the end of Dr. Guido Bognolo’s run as author of the Surfactants Alerts column, I make no claim to, in any way, step in as a successor to the great man. Guido’s contributions to the field of surfactants are legendary. I therefore agreed to write about surfactants for HPC Today on the condition that this column goes by a different name and has a different focus to that written for many years by Guido. While we all stand on the shoulders of giants, one must think very carefully before attempting to fill their shoes. Guido’s shoes must be at least 2 or 3 sizes bigger than mine, so I’ll not presume to try to wear them.

In each column, I plan to pick up on one or two pieces of news relevant to our industry and develop some further thoughts on them. My aim is to be thought provoking and occasionally entertaining.
