COLIPI is a Hamburg-based start-up that produces vegetable and plant oil alternatives through microbial fermentation. The unique process enables sustainable production with fewer CO2 emissions and land use.
State of the art
Currently, most oils and fats, such as palm oil and cocoa butter, are sourced from agricultural production, which harms the environment and fires global warming. Globally, several microbial oil companies are trying to tackle this issue by producing oils by fermentation. However, depending on the specific process and feedstocks, this approach does not always offer a veritable improvement over the current agricultural production.
AIM – FILL IN THE GAP
With its unique and novel process, COLIPI develops sustainable oils, which are a true improvements over conventional vegetable and plant oils. A comprehensive market assessment showed that large corporates struggle to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions associated with “Scope 3”.
