Sunscreen products typically contain both sunscreen absorbers and antioxidants.  However, it is recognized that some of these absorbers can be photo-unstable or the antioxidants may act as pro-oxidants. Hence, the effectiveness of the product may be compromised. The design of Synoxyl^® HSS (INCI: Trimethoxybenzylidene Pentanedione) is inspired by dehydrozingerone which occurs naturally in ginger. The target compound is an excellent stabilizer of pho-unstable absorbers as well as an effective inhibitor of upstream reactive oxygen species (ROS).
